Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 4th, 2015 11:30am
As we gather, we are mindful that as part of God’s creation, we wish the best for one another. Within this faith community we express this in prayer and through blessing.
In the Scriptures, the act of blessing means ‘the imparting of power or life.’ The person performing the blessing is mediating that power from God or Christ to the person or the animal involved. To bless is more than an expression of goodwill and caring. To bless is to impart God’s power in person. We gather together each year to bless our animal companions. Though they at times may be terrors at home (my cats like to scratch doors), they bring us joy, laughter, and teach us about unconditional love.
Bring your animals, or pictures of your animals, for a service of Blessing this coming Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in our courtyard. We will sing, bless, and tell stories about our animal companions. Bones and kitty treats will be available for all.
