Ellensburg Cold Weather Shelter

Ellensburg UMC partners with five other churches around Ellensburg to provide shelter for our unhoused neighbors throughout the cold winter months.  The Cold Weather Shelter is a ministry of the Kittitas Valley Ministerial Association.

The Cold Weather Shelter opens on November 15th and runs through March 15th.  Guests check in with their belongings at 7:00pm and the doors close at 8:00pm.  Lights are turned out at 10:00pm, and on at 6:00am the next morning.  Guests need to be cleaned up and out by 7:00am.  Dinner or a hearty snack is provided each night.  Sleeping bags and pads are provided.

Ways To Serve
Volunteers are needed every night and morning throughout the winter months.  Screening volunteers need to have special training as they check in as they greet the guests, confirm their compliance with shelter rules and policies, and check in personal items for storage overnight.  Evening volunteers fellowship with guests, help to serve the evening meal, and provide any assistance necessary through lights out.  Morning volunteers help with making coffee and hot water for oatmeal, wake-up and clean-up, and ensure that the space is cleaned up when guests leave.

If you would like to volunteer, contact Susan Casey, the CWS Coordinator, at (206)963-0912 or email sucasey0912@gmail.com
